Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in Vienna
I offer Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) in Vienna. CBT is an evidence-based form of treatment and is the first choice of psychotherapy for many mental health conditions. My required supervision sessions are conducted with experienced therapists of the Austrian Society for CBT. I work with adults including young adults starting age 16. Unless otherwise indicated, therapy requires usually one session per week.
My core fields of therapy are: anxiety, depression, psychosomatic symptoms, psychological stressors due to pain or illness, psychological symptoms due to job related or private stressors, identity and personality development, and mental health preventation. In addition I offer career coaching for scientists.
The initial session as well as following sessions last 50 minutes and cost 125 EUR each. If you are unable to attend a session, I kindly ask you to cancel as early as possible, at least 48 hours in advance. Otherwise I will have to charge the session. If a spot is available, a reduced fee can be negotiated under financial hardships.
Online sessions are possible if indicated.
For a partial refund by Austrian health care providers a diagnosis is required. Public health care providers reimburse between 33 and 46 Euros per session.
Psychotherapy is meant to be a safe space for clients to freely speak about their troubles. According to Austrian psychotherapy law §15(1) I am bound by a duty of confidentiality.

About me

„In formal logic, a contradiction is the signal of a defeat; but in the evolution of real knowledge it marks the first step in progress towards victory.“
Alfred North Whitehead
I grew up in a small village near Krems an der Donau. My interest in cosmology and particle physics made me study physics at the University of Vienna. After graduating with a PhD, I switched to a career in science management.
For more than 10 years, I have been working at the Institute of Science and Technology Austria (ISTA), an English speaking research institute in Klosterneuburg near Vienna where I am in charge of career developement for scientists. After years of coaching PhD students and postdocs (which I am still doing part-time) I have now made yet another step and studied psychotherapy. I strive to understand things on a fundamental level. What are deep human troubles and how can we resolve them? How can we live a meaningful life in this world? Therapy offers time and space to deal with these questions.
Together with my partner and our two cats I have been living in Hernals for almost 15 years now. We like it here.
